Ultimately, 369 victims of sexual abuse are demanding compensation from the Archdiocese of Saint-Jean, in Newfoundland and Labrador. /p>

The Archbishop of Saint John, Peter Hundt, made the announcement in a letter read on Sunday before the faithful of the archdiocese. p>

Peter Hundt says he is doing everything possible to respond to the victims' requests, while ensuring the survival of the Catholic communities of the archdiocese.

Friday, the controller appointed by the court to liquidate the assets of Corporation episcopale catholique de Saint-Jean (CECRSJ) also presented a report to the court.

The document presents in particular the details surrounding the sale of real estate to finance compensation.

The monitor's report also notes 369 claims for compensation for abuse suffered at the Mount Cashel orphanage.

Peter Hundt indicates that the compensation claims are being reviewed by an independent monitor who will determine the value of each. For the moment, the court controller says he does not know how much the amounts requested from the CECRSJ amount to. The independent auditor's decision should be rendered in April 2024.
