Navee wages war on counterfeiting using artificial intelligence

A French start-up called “Navee” is committed to putting an end to online counterfeiting. To do this, it relies on artificial intelligence which has allowed it to process more than 50 million images and save a few brands in the process.

Counterfeiting accounts for 3.3% of global trade, and 10% of global luxury turnover. A third of French people have already been fooled. However, individuals are not the only ones to suffer from these scams; Hundreds of global brands are losing hundreds of millions of euros because of this. “An economic catastrophe, but also a human one, since most counterfeit producers work in appalling working and environmental conditions”, explains Matteo Amerio, co-founder of Navee. So he decided to act, with Matthieu Daviet.

From the United States, they are together developing “computer vision” technology to analyze the tons of counterfeits that are flooded with online sales websites. Armed with this tool, they founded Navee in France, and raised 2.5 million euros. Four years later, they obtained recognition.

As reported by the media Maddyness, their artificial intelligence“deciphers the visual, graphic and textual elements specific to each of [their] clients […], which makes it possible to quickly locate and control online content, but also to automate their deletion, going so far as to identify the networks that are hidden behind.”

Last November, the start-up was voted the most innovative solution in the world of intellectual property by the International Trademark Association (INTA). Today, she is part of the anti-counterfeiting committee of this same association, which fights against counterfeiting throughout the world.

For Matteo Amerio, “the ambition is both to carry out awareness-raising actions, but also to unite brand platforms around technologies that are no longer reactive, but proactive, and to integrate global discussions bringing together governments and brands to significantly advance the fight against fraud”.
