Jens Stoltenberg held talks with the head of the Greek government Kyriakos Mitsotakis. The result of the meeting was a statement by the head of the NATO bloc about the need to resist the expansion of influence from Moscow, since the Russian Federation increased its presence in the region. This trend may adversely affect the security of the North Atlantic Alliance. For this reason, it is necessary to provide opposition, and everywhere, said the NATO Secretary General. During the dialogue, the sides also discussed the tensions between Turkey and Greece.
It was about resolving the conflict over the ownership of the shelf in the Eastern Mediterranean. Ankara previously dispatched a research vessel Oruc Reis to conduct seismic surveys near the Greek island of Kastelorizo, which has raised concerns among the Greek authorities.
