American businessman Elon Musk has been secretly funding a conservative political group for several years that has been critical of the Biden administration and progressive political platforms, Reuters reports, citing four people familiar with the matter.
This indicates that Musk has been secretly funding right-wing groups even before he endorsed former President Donald Trump for reelection in July.
Two people familiar with the matter told Reuters that Musk's contributions to Building America's Future date back to at least 2022. One of the people said the donations amounted to millions of dollars, significantly strengthening the group, whose advertising and social media campaigns have been critical of the Biden administration and progressive political platforms that Musk has increasingly denounced.

Earlier on Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal reported that Elon Musk had funded other pro-Republican groups. The businessman himself or representatives of the organization have not commented on the situation.
Musk has long tried to avoid suggestions that he favors either of the major US political parties. Back in March, months before he publicly endorsed Trump and announced plans to fund a political action committee to work against Democrats, he wrote on social media: “To be very clear, I do not donate money to any candidate for President of the United States.”However, donations to “Building America's Future” suggests that he has already used his resources to fund right-wing causes.
It is not known whether Musk is still funding the organization or how much he may have donated in total.
Over the past two years, the organization has “attacked the Biden administration on a range of issues, including illegal immigration, an issue Musk frequently comments on.”
