Two people were seriously injured during the fire in the sauna in Munich’s student city; a 20-year-old woman is fighting for her life. The interim report that she had succumbed to her injuries was contradicted by a spokesman for the Munich fire brigade in the morning. According to him, three other people suffered minor injuries.
The fire broke out on Tuesday night in the basement of the student dormitory on Christoph-Probst-Straße in Freimann, as the spokesman said, around 2:30 p.m. a caller alerted the fire brigade and reported black smoke in the basement and in the stairwell.
The so-called “Stusta” sauna in Christoph-Probst-Straße 6 burned out completely. Why the fire broke out is still unclear, said the spokesman for the fire brigade – as well as the question of whether the sauna was in operation, which would actually be prohibited according to the current Corona rules.
The police are now investigating.
The two seriously injured – according to the fire brigade, a man aged 25 to 30 and a 20-year-old woman – did not suffer from fire, but from smoke poisoning. Both are in mortal danger.
The man was found in the hallway of the basement and ventilated, the woman in the hallway on the fourth floor, said the spokesman. Her chances of surviving the injuries are slim. Both probably lived in the house, said a police spokeswoman, but this has not yet been confirmed.
