Mirage 2000 vs. F-16: French fighters are better (video)

France promised Ukraine Mirage 2000 fighters in the first quarter of 2025. According to experts, their supply can affect the battle line.

“Telegraph” investigated whether the French “Mirages” would become another search for “super weapons”, as was the case before the transfer of F-16 fighters. The Mirage 2000 and F-16 Fighting Falcon are both fourth-generation multirole fighters, but they have differences. In particular, in the construction — Mirages have a triangular delta wing, while the F-16 has a more traditional wing design. Some pilots consider this a disadvantage of the French aircraft, but it allows for a higher speed.

Maximum speed

Mirage 2000 can develop a speed of 2, Mach 2 (2400 km/h), while theF-16 Fighting Falcon can reach Mach 1.2 (1470 km/h).

Combat radius and ceiling

Combat radius F-16 is about 550 km, while the Mirage ” about 1550 km. Maximum altitude Mirage 2000 and F-16 17 and 15 km, respectively.

Weapons

The Mirage 2000 can carry a variety of weapons, including MICA air-to-air missiles, Magic II missiles and precision-guided munitions. The fighter is equipped with a 30-mm DEFA gun. Weapon weight — up to 6,300 kg.

The F-16 is equipped with a 20 mm M61 Vulcan gun. The weight of potential weapons is greater — up to 7700 kg. These can be AIM-120 AMRAAM and AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles, JDAM munitions and various precision bombs.

Both aircraft are equipped with advanced radar and radar systems. The F-16 is more battle-tested. Both the Mirage 2000 and the F-16 are effective multirole fighters. For the defense of Ukraine, the integration of both aircraft can significantly increase air capabilities. The overall efficiency of aviation will increase in connection with the ACS-890 long-range radar detection aircraft, which Sweden promised to Ukraine. However, it should be noted — Mirage 2000 pilots need to take a training course.
