For ten months, Ukrainians have been living in the realities of a full-scale war: with night air raids, shelling explosions, and part of the – fighting for Ukraine in the trenches. All these events have a direct impact on the psycho-emotional state of people, so even now millions of Ukrainians need help.

How exactly the state plans to provide it, Ukrainian Radio learned from the Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko.

According to the official, the war affected the psychological state of about 14 million Ukrainians.

“The war has a significant impact on the psycho-emotional state, and we estimate that about 14 million Ukrainians experience the impact of the war on their psycho-emotional state. A large number of them will require psychological support. And above all, what we would like people to do — they weren’t looking for psychologists, because they can’t always be found in the locality where they live, but they had access to psychological support, — noted Viktor Lyashko.

According to him, it will be possible to receive such assistance through the team of a family doctor.

“A training course for family doctors according to the WHO standard has now been launched, clearly describing all the problems of the psycho-emotional state that a family doctor can pay attention to,” — the minister said.

Lyashko added that the key to both other diseases and changes in the psychological state — do no harm. Therefore, if a person feels that something is wrong with him, you should not self-medicate and, moreover, prescribe medicines to yourself, in particular pharmaceuticals.

“In each state, you must first go through all stages of diagnosis, a problem has been identified, you should try to solve it without drug treatment. And only in certain cases, a qualified psychiatrist can prescribe a drug that can be obtained at a pharmacy through the Affordable Medicine program. or, if the program does not cover it, buy it at a pharmacy, – the minister explained.
