Microsoft “cracked” the Windows 11 operating system with another update

The January Windows 11 update KB5050009 has been disastrous for many users. Bluetooth headphones and devices connected via an external USB DAC are reported to be inoperable. Users are experiencing a «disappearance» of the webcam with the error «Camera not detected». Switching programs with Alt+Tab can cause the system to freeze. To fix these errors, sometimes uninstalling updates is not enough and reinstalling the OS is required.

Users report that after installing the Windows 11 24H2 update KB5050009, Bluetooth headphones stopped working, although they were displayed in the list of connected devices. Turning the headphones off and on again does not help, as does resetting Bluetooth settings. It also became impossible to watch YouTube videos due to constant buffering or sound rendering errors. The problem can only be solved by uninstalling the KB5050009 update.

After installing the update, many users began to report problems with built-in webcams that functioned normally before installing the fresh software. In particular, owners of HP Spectre laptops complain that the camera on their devices is no longer detected, and uninstalling the update does not help solve the problem, the OS needs to be reinstalled. A similar situation is reported by owners of several models of Dell 4K monitors with built-in webcams (for example, P3424WEB and P2424HEB) – after updating the OS, the error “The device cannot start” is displayed.

After installing updates KB5050009 for Windows 11 24H2 and KB5050021 for Windows 11 23H2, there are numerous reports of external USB DACs not working, resulting in no sound on the connected equipment, and the driver showing the error «Insufficient system resources». Among the affected devices – JDS Labs ODAC, Fiio E17K USB DAC, FX-Audio DAC-X6, Hifime Sabre DAC, HyperX USB headset, and Denon CEOL Carino. Testing the DACs on other devices confirms their functionality. The sound is restored only after removing the update.

The KB5050009 update for Windows 11 24H2 often causes the game to freeze or crash when switching programs during gameplay using the Alt+Tab keys. In this case, the Ctrl+Alt+Del combination or calling the Task Manager does not work, and Explorer or the Desktop may also freeze. The problem affects many games, including Fortnite and Assassin’s Creed.

The KB5050009 update itself often causes crashes directly during its installation. Some users experience endless reboots, while others receive error code 0x80070005. After installing the update, some users are reporting that Smart App Control is not working properly.

There is currently no workaround to fix the Windows 11 24H2 January Update issue. The only solution is to uninstall it, pause Windows updates, and wait for Microsoft to respond.
