One hour before the The Mexican Soccer Team arrived in Doha to participate in the World Cup Qatar 2022 there was hardly a fan waiting for the Gerardo “Tata” Martino; however, the Mexican community residing in the Middle Eastern country took action and for instant messaging they organized to be at the concentration hotel in minutes.
This was revealed to ESPN Jaciel , an engineer who has been in Qatar for eight years and who avoided a cold arrival from the Aztec squad.
“We saw on social networks that there were few fans waiting for the Mexican National Team and we agreed on WhatsApp, we have a group of all of us who live in Qatar and we have been waiting for this moment for eight years. We couldn't leave our team alone”
According to data from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), the World Cup country is home to around 600 compatriots, many of them dedicated to aeronautics.

Thus, Within minutes they agreed and arrived in a caravan of more than ten cars, minutes before the Tri bus arrived.
“I am very excited, the country has been preparing for many years. We are happy, it is something that we had not experienced. I have been following him for a long time, we have a WhatsApp group, in which most of us who came and found out he was coming here are, we ran away”, commented Carlos, another engineer who lives in Qatar for a few months.
In the next few hours it is expected that at least 60 thousand compatriots will arrive in those lands to encourage the selection, which from 1994 has managed to overcome the first phase, although they have stayed in the round of 16.
“It is a pride to have our team in Qatar. We found out from voice to voice, thanks to the embassy, because there was a fan and Mexico needs support,” said Ingrid Barrera, who has been in Qatar for seven years and attended the welcome.

Despite the economic crisis and the bad moment that the National Team is experiencing, the green shirts, the straw hats and the faces painted in tricolor will flood the streets of the venues where the Aztec squad will play, being one of the most numerous fans, although this great support will not necessarily get them past the round of 16
For Ricardo Trujillo Correa, academic at the Faculty of Psychology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), this phenomenon has to do with identification, since for these fans the most important thing is not the result on the pitch or the expense of attending the stadium , but the emotion of accompanying their National Team. This was explained in an article published in the UNAM Gazette:
“They have not defined what they will do or what hotel they will be in. And, sometimes, what they think is that it doesn't matter, 'I'll see what I do', where they will stay, even if it's on a bench. 'I don't know how I'm going to pay it, I'll see later, even if I sell my car. Even if they run me out of the house. All of that doesn't matter. It is not a rational calculation, but rather has an emotional logic”
Trujillo Correa pointed out that this identification is also related to an immediatist way of life: “ We invented activities and it has to do with the fact that in the villages a century ago you worked hard all year round and only had one day of festivity to enjoy and let off steam. This opposition between intense work and fun is the same mechanism. We work a lot and give ourselves these festivities to get rid of all the limitations with reality and fantasize about the party”.
