Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, 67, announced on Sunday that he had tested positive for COVID-19, that his symptoms were mild and that he remained optimistic.

“I regret to inform you that I have been contaminated with COVID-19. The symptoms are mild, but I am already receiving medical treatment, ”said the Head of State on his official Facebook account.
Mr. Lopez Obrador, who has maintained most of his activities during the pandemic, has appointed Home Secretary Olga Sánchez to replace him at his press conference Monday through Friday at 7 a.m. local time.
“I will be attentive to public affairs from the National Palace. For example, tomorrow [lundi], I will have a telephone interview with President Vladimir Poutine ”, specified Mr. Lopez Obrador, referring to his Russian counterpart.
The leftist leader had three public activities over the weekend, the last of them Friday morning in the state of San Luis Potosi (north).
“AMLO” suffered from heart problems for which he was treated in a private hospital in 2013. He also suffers from hypertension.
Other heads of state and government before him have contracted COVID-19, such as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Brazilian Presidents Jair Bolsonaro, American Donald Trump and French Emmanuel Macron.
Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador does not use a mask in public places. He has only been seen wearing it when traveling by plane.
