For a long time PSG has been trying -without success- that his millionaire investments give him revenue in the Champions League. In 2020 he touched the long-awaited 'Orejona', reaching the final as millions of him announced. But, it was just that and no more to celebrate in the Parc des Princes. Now -even in the midst of that curse-, a spectacular start to the season by the fearsome trident made up of Kylian Mbappé, Neymar and Lionel Messi once again excites the Parisians with the end of their misfortune in Europe. Now yes, more than ever.

For PSG, everything is possible, except winning the Champions League. Last season he forged a true firmament in his squad. In addition to having convinced Messi to form a great trident alongside Mbappé and Neymar, he also brought in cracks like Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos… and the list goes on.

Still, things did not go as expected. The Parisian team qualified for the round of 16 as second in their group (below Manchester City) and ended up bumping into the enormous hierarchy of Real Madrid, who came back from the series in less than 20 minutes (3-2 overall) and, later, ended being the champion of the edition.

This time, it was time to rely on the same trident, although some adjustments had to be made to the squad . Mauricio Pochettino, for example, stopped being the coach of the team to give his place to Christophe Galtier, a coach who -at least at this start of the season- has been able to fully exploit the best virtues of Kylian, Ney and Lio.

< b>After Tuesday's match, PSG completed eight official games, in which its three stars accumulated a total of 22 goals and 13 assists together. Impressive numbers. And Neymar is precisely the one who stands out the most. He has regained the shine that he lost in the last season.

This great moment of the French, the Brazilian and the Argentine warned what could happen in the debut of the Champions. Although it was not an easy rival (Juventus), the Parisian trident prevailed again with a simply magnificent performance. It is clear that all three are now more comfortable with Galtier's system than before with Pochettino's.

As has become customary, Neymar added a new genius in the Parc des Princes, creating a marvelous assist on Kylian Mbappé's first goal, which he defined with class and then did it again to celebrate his brace in 22 minutes. Messi, for his part, was the perfect complement to the two above, although he did not dazzle as he has been lately.

The result final? 2-1 in favor of the Parisians, who lowered their revolutions in the second half and were unable to increase their lead. Still, it's a positive win to start with and a joy to get excited about.

    Notable improvement

There are many differences in the beginning of this season with the previous one. At the start of 2021/22, Messi shone more for his absence than for what he could do on the pitch; Almost the same thing happened with Neymar; and Mbappé was the only one who was saved with outstanding performances.

Coming into comparison and defining in the first 10 games, Messi, Neymar and Mbappé recorded a combined six goals and seven assists last season. Now this trident has noticeably increased his production in two games less (22 goals and 13 assists).

The main difference is that last season Mbappé dominated the field practically alone in that trident that had been formed. In fact, from the aforementioned tally, he scored four of those six goals and provided five of the seven assists.

Meanwhile, the participation of Messi and Neymar in those first 10 games was almost nil. The Argentine only played half of those games due to a training deficit and the Brazilian played six. In the same way, when it was their turn to both be on the field, they did not contribute much like Kylian. 'Lio' scored just one goal and 'Ney' did the same and added an assist to his balance.

Now, things have gotten much better. Mbappé already feels accompanied and supported by the other two stars on his side and his goalscoring production has been firmly enriched with the magic recovered from Neymar in assists and with a Messi who, of course, looks to have much better numbers than the previous season .

The statistics speak for themselves. The Parisian trident seems to have finally straightened its course. And with this sensational start to the season, in the Parc des Princes they once again dream of the first Champions League in their history, although now with greater caution. The important thing will be what happens from the round of 16 onwards. Meanwhile, this debut in the Champions League is once again awakening hope in the French capital.
