The Atlanta Falcons have no plans to trade or release quarterback Matt Ryan and wide receiver Julio Jones.
That’s what the NFL Network learned on Tuesday.
Georgia’s squad especially want to see how the two athletes evolve under new head coach Arthur Smith.
The latter revealed that he intended to use an offensive system similar to the one the Falcons used in 2016, when they were Super Bowl finalists.
That season, Ryan was also selected as the NFL MVP.
The 35-year-old pivot still had a strong campaign in 2020, despite his side ending the year with a poor 4-12 record. In 16 games, Ryan completed 65% of his passes for 4,581 yards and 26 touchdowns.
For his part, Jones was hampered by injuries, which limited him to nine games. He had 51 catches for 771 yards and three majors. It was the first time since 2014 that he did not amass 1,000 winning yards in a season.
