In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, comedian Sebastian Stan made some revelations about the DC Universe. He revealed that he had almost played a cult DC character in the past, and that he would love to join James Gunn's DCU in another iconic role.
Sebastian Stan: from Marvel to DC?
Today, Sebastian Stan is best known for being the face of Bucky Barnes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). A role he has played since the first Captain America in 2011. A role that has followed him through time since Sebastian Stan has reprised the character of Bucky seven times. We will also find him in the Winter Soldier's clothes in Thunderbolts next year.
Currently starring in The Apprentice, the biopic on Donald Trump, Sebastian Stan visited Josh Horowitz's podcast. An appearance during which he discussed his past as an actor, and his relationship with DC.
Sebastian Stan as the Riddler?
Sebastian Stantouched on a lot of topics around the superhero universe. He first returned to his role as Bucky Barnes. And he revealed that he would have liked to embody more of the dark version of the character, when he was under the control of HYDRA in Captain America: The Winter Soldier:
I wish we had explored more of the Winter Soldier aspect of my character. The whole situation where he has these lapses, these old memories, and he freaks out because of all this mess, it was great. In the comics, the Winter Soldier is basically his alter ego. Bucky doesn't remember when he switches to this other personality. We could have seen Bucky wake up after a fall, missing an arm, trying to recover his past. ÇThat would have been super interesting to see.

It's true that Marvel could have emphasized the dark side of the character more. But Bucky has always been a secondary character in the Marvel franchise. Later in the interview, Sebastian Stan returned to his audition for the role of Green Lantern. Indeed, even if Ryan Reynoldsinherited the role of Hal Jordan, Sebastian Stan was also in the running to participate in the DC film:
I auditioned for Green Lantern. I remember being in the studio's final choices with Justin Timberlake, Jared Leto, and Ryan Reynolds. I remember those guys weren't super confident, and they thought they had blown their auditions. But looking back, I'm almost glad I blew that audition, too.
Finally, Sebastian Stan approached a possible entry into the DC Universe, why not into the DC Universe (DCU) of James Gunn. The actor revealed that he would love to play a new version of the Riddler:
I don't know if Batman is for me. Never say never, I don't know. There are so many characters. I've told you before, I've always had a soft spot for the Riddler.
The Riddler has already appeared twice in the cinema. Once in 1995 as Jim Carrey in Batman Forever and in 2022, as by Paul Dano in the excellent The Batman. Is James Gunn planning a return of The Riddler in his DCU? Hard to say, but in any case Sebastian Stan is up for the role.
