The case of Kang the Conqueror is a thorny one. Since Jonathan Majors was fired by Marvel Studios following his conviction for assault and harassment of one of his former partners, the fate of his character is threatened… All the more so with the return of Robert Downey Jr. as Fatalis! As for Kevin Feige, he plays with wooden language.
Will Kang the Conqueror be on the poster for Avengers?
It was supposed to be called Kang Dynasty,it is now titled Doomsday; Ultimately, Avengers 5 will not see the promised confrontation between the team of vigilantes and the Machiavellian Conqueror. Is this change of program synonymous with a pure and simple erasure of the presence of the blue-skinned supervillain in the MCU? Or will Jonathan Majors be replaced by another actor? Marvel Studios may not have the solution to this problem yet. Interviewed by our colleagues at ScreenRant during the promotion of Deadpool & Wolverine, Kevin Feige didn't want to reveal whether Kang the Conqueror will still be an Avengers villain, preferring to dodge the issue.
I commend you for asking the question bluntly. I take credit for trying to sidestep it and avoid it altogether.
Jonathan Majors' case is not an isolated one, so Kevin Feige is probably hesitant to exclude him from the MCU altogether. There are precedents of actors and directors who have been found guilty, and who have nevertheless (re)integrated the Marvel Studios cinematic universe. Robert Downey Jr. is the first, who stayed in prison several times, or James Gunn, fired from Guardians of the Galaxy for old tweets, and who finally got his job back. The lack of a definitive answer from the producer could suggest that the interpreter of the villain could reprise his role in the future… Or one of his colleagues. At least, doubt is still allowed.
And you, what do you think?
