The singer María Mendiola, one of the two components of the Baccara group, who revolutionized Spanish nightclubs at the end of the 70s, has died this Saturday in Madrid, as announced by his family. Mendiola, 69, formed Baccara in 1976 together with Mayte Mateos, the other half of the group.

In 1978, despite being Spanish, they represented Luxembourg at Eurovision. Their music, a danceable pop supported by the voices of both, immediately became a success on the dance floors of a Spain that at that time was looking to freedom after the restoration of democracy. Among his most famous subjects were ‘Yes sir, I can boogie’, ‘Sorry, I’m a lady’ y ‘The Devil Sent you to Laredo’.
