Marc Messier has often played the teasers in the theater as well as on small and large screens. We only have to think of his legendary roles in comedies Brew, The Little Life and The Boys, to name just a few. After a career of fifty years as an actor, comedian and screenwriter, here he launches into humor with his first show Alone … On stage.
The 73-year-old artist is now ready for a new challenge. “This is something I had wanted to do for a very long time. I thought of that when I had time, ”says Marc Messier.
But between his role in the series of Réjean Tremblay Lance and count or the one in Omertà and more recently The RiftIn addition to all of his other contracts and responsibilities as a father of three, he has been so busy over the past few years that he has not been able to fully devote himself to this project.
“At one point, I started to write. I’ve been working on this for about a year, ”he explains.
It is on the set of Boomerang, a television series with which he shares the limelight with Antoine Bertrand and Catherine-Anne Toupin, which he thought about more seriously. He then had a discussion with the producer and president ofStill Show, Francois Rozon. It is this group that will present the one man show by Marc Messier.
In addition to making people laugh, of course, it will present thoughts and anecdotes under different themes such as theater, religion, death and aging. He also goes back by having a discussion with his ego at the turn of the 1960s.
“I speak of my theatrical journey with a strong sense of derision and a lot of humor. This is not a three lines and a punch show. I tell things, ”says the artist.
As Marc Messier has been an actor for almost half a century, acting has no secrets. However, the process behind the creation of his show has been a universe to be discovered.
“I still have more seats [pour la comédie] since I’ve been doing this all my life. Writing is a bit new to me, but I really liked it and I can’t wait to do this project, ”he explains.
“Of course it’s different from what I do. This is a bit moreover what brings me there. I’m interested in doing different things. ” – Marc Messier
Also, it will be an opportunity for him to get closer to people, unlike what he did on television or in the various plays he has performed. “I will speak directly to the public, which I have never done”, underlines Mr. Messier.
He will not play any character and will be alone with a microphone to combine humor and emotion.
Due to the current situation, the tour of the Marc Messier show has been postponed. As soon as the rooms reopen, the main interested party intends to return quietly to the stage.
One thing is certain, the compulsory break forced by the pandemic will have benefited him in some way. “Since everything was stopped, it gave me time because it takes a lot to do this kind of thing. […] I couldn’t have done it before in my career because I was too busy, ”admits Marc Messier.
The one who was filming last fall does not give up on his career as an actor. Rather, it is a new string to its bow.
“It’s a project that is very close to my heart. I am in a position where I go where my pleasure takes me. I’m never bored, ”he emphasizes.
The texts were written in collaboration with Louis Saia and Mani Soleymanlou, who also provides the staging. This is also the part New of it, presented in 2018, which served as the starting point for Marc Messier’s solo show.
