A 19-year-old man was shot and killed by a police officer during a confrontation in Winnipeg on Sunday afternoon.

In a press release released Monday, The Winnipeg Police Service says officers responded to an apartment on University Crescent shortly before 2:30 p.m. Sunday after receiving a call about a man behaving erratically.

According to police, the man was indeed armed when officers arrived on scene.

During the confrontation, a police officer shot the #x27;man, who was then taken to hospital in critical condition before succumbing to his injuries.

According to Winnipeg Police Chief Danny Smyth, the man had at least one interaction with police in the past.
