A man who is believed to be behind numerous false bomb threats that have occurred around the world in recent weeks, including around fifty in Quebec alone, was finally arrested in recent days in Morocco, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said on Saturday.

The 45-year-old suspect is believed to have played a role in a mass mailing of bomb threats between October 18 and November 27.

< p class="StyledBodyHtmlParagraph-sc-48221190-4 hnvfyV">In Quebec, these emails were sent [not only] to several educational establishments but also to businesses, professional offices, government [representatives] and the media. In total, around fifty files with the same characteristics were listed by police forces in several regions of Quebec, explained the SQ in a press release.

In these emails, the sender demanded a monetary ransom in order to reveal the location of the bombs.
