An Ottawa man was arrested by police after allegedly detonating a homemade explosive device Sunday evening outside a downtown home.

Officers responded to Arlington Avenue around 8:40 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls from residents who said they heard a loud noise and a flash of light.

On site, officers determined that it was due to the explosion of a homemade device. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Police searched the suspect's residence early Monday morning. He was then arrested.

The 53-year-old man is scheduled to appear at the Ottawa courthouse on Monday.

He is accused of having used explosives with the intention of injuring and damaging property , in addition to a charge of mischief.

For their part, the Ottawa police are appealing to all people who could hold more than 'information related to this event.
