French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in Germany on Sunday, May 26, for a three-day state visit.
Germany and France, the EU's two biggest powers, are keen to show unity ahead of the elections to the European Parliament.
Macron's trip to Berlin, Dresden and Munster – the first state visit of a French president to Germany in 24 years, reports Agence France-Presse.
"This state visit comes at a key moment for Europe, – Macron told reporters after being received by his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier at the Schloss Bellevue presidential palace. – We must resist imperialist aspirations in Europe… this involves strengthening Franco-German relations.”
Steinmeier stressed that by working together, Germany and France can overcome the geopolitical challenges facing Europe . We are talking, in particular, about Russia’s war against Ukraine and the war in Gaza.
