Lviv polytechnics developed technology for fire-resistant double-glazed windows: how it works

Scientists of "Lviv Polytechnic" developed a new technology for the production of double-glazed windows, which is available to Ukrainian manufacturers. The technology, created under the leadership of Professor Serhiy Varvarenko, uses a liquid composition to fill the intervitreal space.

The press service of the university informs about this.

About Development

This composition turns into a transparent polymer-mineral hydrogel during sealing and heat treatment. In the event of a fire or other emergency, under the influence of high temperatures (150–250°C), the gel turns into foam and expands. This protects the glass, maintaining its integrity and insulating properties, preventing cracks or holes from forming.

The technology is easy to implement and economically beneficial for manufacturers.
