Lucie, French artificial intelligence developed by Linagora and the CNRS, was supposed to embody the ethical alternative to the technological giants. But after a catastrophic launch, it is suspended, ridiculed by grotesque errors highlighted by Internet users. The French Touch.

It was initially launched with sparkling promises: an “ethical” alternative to the dominant models. But instead of conquering the collective imagination, she has become the laughing stock of the web. Her first big faux pas ? Estimating that a hole in the Gruyere cheese weighs between 10 and 20 grams. A detail that may seem insignificant, but it is not, especially when the AI is supposed to “revolutionize” education. The fiasco didn't take long to unfold: after only three days of being online, Linagora had to suspend the platform, a quick and total humiliation.

At the heart of This shipwreck, a problem of timing and preparation. As reported by Siècle Digital, Lucie was just a prototype that was hastily launched, without adequate protections against absurd responses. Michel-Marie Maudet, Linagora’s CEO, acknowledged the mistakes: “We presented Lucie as a finished product, when it was still a project in development.”

Despite everything, the project is supported by France 2030, and has not yet had its final word. “It remains a test, a step,” insisted the creators. But for AI to become credible, much more than technical adjustments will be needed. It will be necessary to regain the public’s trust, and (perhaps) prove that France can compete with the players in artificial intelligence. Not won for now.
