The UK on Thursday, September 26, imposed sanctions on five ships and related companies involved in the supply of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). The British government notes that it is the first time it has used such legal powers directly against ships carrying LNG. This was reported by Reuters.
In its statement, the British government recalled that earlier this year London, together with its allies in the US and the EU, imposed sanctions on the Arctic LNG 2 project, and since then it has been forced to reduce output.

The new restrictions targeted White Fox Ship Management and Ocean Speedstar Solutions OPC. The list of vessels hit by sanctions includes Asya Energy, Pioneer, North Sky, SCF La Perouse and Nova Energy.
Earlier this month, Reuters reported that Britain imposed sanctions on 10 vessels in Russia's “shadow fleet” that it said were using illegal methods to circumvent Western restrictions on Russian oil.
Moscow has criticized Western measures to curb Russian energy exports. Last year, there was an increase in the number of tankers carrying cargo that is not regulated or insured by traditional Western operators.
