On Wednesday, November 20, Great Britain and Moldova laid the foundations for a new partnership in the field of defense and security in the face of threats from Russia.

This was announced by the head of the British Foreign Office David Lammy during a visit to Chisinau, Agence France-Presse reports.

The British Foreign Office noted that the pact is aimed at "developing broad cooperation between the two countries and strengthening Moldova's resilience to external threats".

"Moldova is an important security partner for the UK, so to strengthen its resilience to Russian aggression and keep the UK safe, we are deepening cooperation on… (combating) illegal migration and launching a new defence and security partnership," Lammy said.

The Kremlin's war against Ukraine has forced millions of civilians to flee their homes. Among them are – tens of thousands of people have moved to Moldova, resulting in more than 50,000 Ukrainian children now living in the country.

This fact was mentioned in a statement by the UK Foreign Office.

BAGNET recalls that earlier this month, Moldovan President Maia Sandu won her re-election despite Russian interference in the election.

This happened just two weeks after a referendum in which Moldovans voted narrowly to join the EU.
