Lockheed Martin developers presented a new cruise missile for F-35 fighters and bombers

The American company Lockheed Martin presented a new variant of the AGM-158 JASSM-XR (eXtreme Range) cruise missile , which has an increased flight range of up to 2,000 km. This version of the missile is based on the previous JASSM-ER and LRASM models, retaining the inconspicuous design, but with additional fuel and a heavier warhead, according to Army Inform.

The new missile can be launched from various aircraft, including the F-35, F-22, F-15 and B-1, B-2 and B-52 bombers. However, it is not suitable for use with the F-16 due to its increased dimensions.

It is known that the JASSM-XR is being developed primarily for the US military, and only after meeting domestic needs the missile may be available for export.

Lockheed Martin is expected to be able to produce up to 1 100 JASSM-XR missiles annually, and the company plans to conduct the first tests in the coming years.
