The American company Lockheed Martin presented its new Mako hypersonic missile. This is reported by NewAtlas.

The missile is being developed for the US Air Force and international customers and can be launched from various types of aircraft. Mako has a speed of over Mach 5. This missile was developed as part of the US Air Force's Stand-in Attack Weapon (SiAW) program to create a hypersonic and affordable missile.

The Mako missile was presented for the first time at Sea Air Space 2024 and described as a “13s” missile. indicating a diameter of 13 inches. The rocket measures 3.9 meters (13 feet) and weighs 589 kilograms (1,300 pounds). Exact technical specifications have not yet been revealed, but it is known that the Mako accelerates to hypersonic speed using a solid-fuel rocket booster. This missile can be used on a variety of aircraft types, including V-generation fighters such as the F-35A, F-35B, F/A-18, F-16, F-15, P-8, F-22 and F- 35C.

However, what makes the Mako special is its cost-effectiveness. This means that this missile can be used on various types of military equipment, including submarines and ships. Mako is named after the fastest shark in the ocean.
