As shown by the analysis of medical data of more than 1,570,000 US residents of different ages, conducted by American scientists, the risk of encountering this type of cancer with an increase in BMI by every 5 points increases by as much as 38%. In addition, for every 5 additional centimeters of waist circumference above normal, the risk of liver cancer increases by another 10%. However, such data, the authors of the study emphasize, are relevant for men. In the case of women, the risk of illness increases by 25% with an increase in BMI.

Also, experts emphasize that over the past decade, the risk of developing this disease has increased by an average of 50%. At the same time, a liver tumor is considered to be the most dangerous form of cancer, since only one out of 10 patients can survive it. Such a high lethality of the disease is due to the fact that it develops without symptoms until the stage at which medicine is powerless.
