Lithuania's top diplomat urges EU to consider sending soldiers to Ukraine

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis said Western countries should seriously consider deploying Western troops to Ukraine if North Korean involvement in the war is confirmed, Politico reports.

According to the minister, confirmation of North Korea's involvement in the war is a reason for the West to consider French President Emmanuel Macron's ideas, which he voiced earlier this year as hypothetical options.

“If the information that Russian assassination squads are being equipped with ammunition from the DPRK and replenished with its troops is confirmed, we should return to the idea of ”presence on the ground” and other proposals of Macron,” Landsbergis emphasized.

It is noted that the EU countries “unfortunately, again lag behind and act passively.”

“But I believe in our common ability to take all the necessary proactive steps and implement Macron's ideas in practice,” he added.

It is known that at a meeting on support for Ukraine, which was convened on February 26 by French President Emmanuel Macron, he announced a coalition of long-range weapons for Ukraine and did not rule out that NATO could send troops to Ukraine. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz confirmed that at the conference on February 26, representatives of Western countries discussed the detente of troops on the territory of Ukraine. As noted, the meeting participants then ultimately decided that they would not do this.
