Lisa Marie Presley was a deeply devoted mother who felt a “horrific reality” after her son Benjamin Keough committed suicide last summer, according to a family friend. Speaking to People magazine, the unnamed source said that the 52-year-old singer-songwriter was “devastated” by the loss of her son, who was found dead at his Calabasas, California, home on July 12, 2020. “Lisa was an incredibly devoted mother and was always extremely involved in her children’s lives,” the source said. “She felt a horrific reality when Ben died, and it has been very hard for her. It’s a tragedy she will never get over.” The source added that Presley had been helping her son to get his music career off the ground prior to his death. “They were working on getting him into the music industry,” the source said. “He was an amazing musician and had a huge future ahead of him. Lisa was incredibly proud of him.”

According to Presley, Keough’s death in July 2020 was “the greatest loss” of her life. She wrote a heartfelt tribute to her son in an Instagram post in which she expressed her love for him and shared her grief. She wrote, “My son Benjamin Storm Presley Keough was an absolute angel. He was a loving son, brother, grandson and friend. He was the sweetest, kindest soul that was full of joy, harmony and peace. His heart was full of love for his family, friends and animals. He was an old soul and was wise beyond his years. He was a songwriter, poet and one of the most beautiful voices our family has ever heard. He was a loyal, courageous and authentic soul and left this earth far too soon.”
