The Washington Library of Congress has notified lawmakers that its electronic system has been hacked. Hackers reportedly gained access to emails between some congressional offices and library staff between January and September 2024. The library said the case has been referred to law enforcement.

The House and Senate email accounts “were not compromised,” the library said.
The Library of Congress is the largest library in the world. Its collection contains millions of books, films, videos, audio recordings, photographs, newspapers, maps, and manuscripts. It is located on the government complex across from the Capitol.
The Library is a key research service for Congress.
