(CNN Spanish) –– Leopoldo Jacinto Luque, former forward of the Argentine soccer team, died this Monday, a source from the Cuyo Clinic, in the Argentine province, told CNN from Mendoza.
Luque had been admitted to that medical center for almost a month after catching COVID-19, Dr. Luis Cicchitti, his personal friend, had told CNN, who also commented on the death.
The Argentine Football Association ( AFA), as well as several of Luque's colleagues, lamented on Twitter the death of the former footballer.
Leopoldo Jacinto Luque was a glory of local football. With the Argentine national team he became champion of the Soccer World Cup in 1978, played in that country.
