Leonardo DiCaprio named in 'The Squid Game' sequel

Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio may be joining the cast of Netflix's worldwide hit “The Squid Game” in the upcoming season. This was stated by the writer and director of the series Hwang Dong-hyuk at a festive press conference organized by Netflix in Seoul, writes Variety.

The Squid Game premiered as a Netflix original series almost a year ago. The series became the first Korean drama to top the top 10 weekly charts for Netflix's most watched TV shows in 94 countries with a whopping 1.65 billion hours watched in the first 28 days after its premiere on September 17.

Excluding the Golden Globe awards and a Screen Actors Guild Award, The Squid Game received 14 Emmy Award nominations and six historic wins. In particular, “Best Lead Actor in a Drama Series”, “Best Directing for a Drama Series”, “Best Guest Actress”, Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program, Outstanding Stunt Performance and Outstanding Special Effects in a Single Episode.

< p>Being the first Korean director to win an Emmy, Hwang said that he always wanted to go international but never expected such great success, and hopes that winning an Emmy will inspire future international creators.

Season 2 will begin filming in 2023, with a new season scheduled for release in 2024.
