It is reported that the studio has previously met with different directors and settled on Whannell's candidacy. In addition, Universal received the script from David Koepp (Secret Window) and was delighted. The film is expected to move into pre-production once the deal with Whannell is finalized.

The original storyline for The Green Hornet and Kato follows Britt Reed, who takes on the nickname the Green Hornet and, along with his faithful Kato's assistant began to fight crime.

Recall that the “Green Hornet” has more than one film adaptation. Based on The Green Hornet, a 1940s film series was released by Universal, and in 1966 a television series in which Bruce Lee played Kato. The last film adaptation starring Seth Rogen was released in 2011. And in the spring of 2020, Universal acquired the rights to film adaptations.

Earlier, the ProShoKino editors called remakes of films and TV shows that are better than the originals.
