LAZARUS: It's already the best anime of 2025, here's why

While we're excited to see the fall 2024 anime, another anime coming in 2025 is catching our eye. And it could quickly become the best anime to come. The bets are on!

LAZARUS: It's already the best anime of 2025, here's why

LAZARUS: The Japanese animated series that's making Hollywood vibrate

Fall 2024 is pretty busy for anime fans. Between the first season of DanDaDan from studio Science Saru, the remake of Ranma 1/2 by studio MAPPA and the arrival of Dragon Ball DAIMA– the last work worked on by the much-missed Akira Toriyama – and the return of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, fans don't know where to look. And the least we can say is that 2025 promises to be just as, if not more, exceptional! The arrival in January 2025 on Netflix of the adaptation of Sakomoto Days – one of the great hopes of readers of Weekly Shōnen Jump– will get the ball rolling, with headliners including the return ofOne Piece, the final season ofMy Hero Academia< /em>, the final season ofDr. Stone, season 2 ofUndead Unluck or even the launch ofGachiakuta.

On our side, the series we are most looking forward to is LAZARUS. Co-produced by Adult Swim and the MAPPA studio, this is the new series by Shin'ichirō Watanabe, to whom we owe among others the cult series Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. After an extremely promising first trailer unveiled in July 2023, our curiosity had been piqued. In 2052, humanity is freed from the disease thanks to a miraculous drug developed by a genius scientist: Professor Skinner. Three years after its commercialization, it is revealed that all users of the drug will die in three years, according to the scientist's plans.A group of agents named LAZARUS goes in search of Skinner to develop a vaccine and save humanity.

During a New York Comic Con panel, which is being held this weekend, we learned that LAZARUS will be a series of thirteen episodes, expected in 2025 on the American channel Toonami (owned by the Warner group) and in France on the Max platform. An excerpt from the first episode has also been revealed, and gives a new glimpse, through an intense chase scene, of the action scenes choreographed by Chad Stahelski, renowned stuntman and director of the John Wick saga.

The producers also announced that the series LAZARUSbenefited from a Hollywood sound design team that had worked on the series Game of Thrones, the diptych Dune by Denis Villeneuve and Top Gun: Maverick. This says a lot about the desire of the major American studios to ride the Japanese animation wave that has hit the United States. Let us recall that in recent months, Adult Swim has been in the news with the series Ninja Kamui (directed by Sunghoo Park, the director of the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen), Uzumaki (based on the manga of the same name by Jinjo Ito) or even Rick & Morty in the Japanese version. In any case, we are extremely impatient to discover LAZARUS, which has the potential to be the biggest anime of the coming year!
