Latvia will hand over a batch of CVR(T) armored vehicles to the Armed Forces: what kind of cars are these

Latvia is preparing to hand over British CVR(T) armored vehicles to Ukraine. The army of the Baltic republic has about 170 units of such equipment in service, including Spartan, Sultan and Scimitar versions.

The machines transferred to Ukraine have a small – 8-10 tons – weight and excellent maneuverability. In particular, the FV107 Scimitar model is armed with a 30 mm L21 automatic cannon and a machine gun. The crew of the tank consists of 3 people. The machine weighing 7.8 tons can develop a very decent speed thanks to a powerful 190-horsepower diesel engine. The armor of the armored car looks quite representative: in the front projection, the machine is able to withstand the impact of armor-piercing bullets of caliber 14.5 mm from a distance of 200 meters.

FV103 Spartan – armored personnel carrier weighing 10.6 tons with a crew of 3 people – designed to carry four paratroopers.

FV105 Sultan – command and staff vehicle weighing 8.3 tons, distinguished by a higher roof to accommodate additional equipment and personnel.

These CVR(T) were actively operated by the Latvian Army for 10 years. The first batch of 123 units was purchased in 2014. The cost of one armored car at that time – €374,000/pc. The entire batch cost more than €46 million. In the following years, another 47 copies were purchased, after which the parties agreed on the localization of the assembly of this equipment on the territory of Latvia.

In exchange for the CVR(T) transferred to Ukraine, the Baltic republic will receive Finnish armored personnel carriers Patria 6×6.
