The Popular Force caucus reiterated its block support for Lady Camones (Alliance for Progress), who heads one of the lists for the presidency of the Board of Directors, and called for unity from the opposition to maintain independence from Congress to the Executive.
In a statement, he indicated that, today more than ever, a “solid and united opposition”, which is why his party was open with all the democratic forces to generate consensus and not cede control of Parliament to the ruling party.
“In the same vein and in order to maintain democratic unity, our Parliamentary Group openly stated that we would give up our position on the list headed by Congresswoman Lady Camones, if the democratic bloc thereby consolidated a unitary list,” he said. .
“Notwithstanding the foregoing, we understand that there is some doubt about what would happen in the event of a possible presidential vacancy and a disqualification of the vice presidency, however, the members of the democratic coalition have signed a Commitment of Honor in which they make it clear that if this happens, they would proceed to elect a new Board of Directors to continue with the constitutional succession procedure”, he added.
Finally, the Popular Force caucus urged “all the democratic forces” to join forces once again to maintain the independence of Parliament from the “ excesses” of the Executive Power.
