Scientists have noted that hair loss can signal the presence of problems in the body, mainly in the gastrointestinal tract. Today, the most effective remedy for this problem is minoxidil. However, experts decided to adapt for these purposes a plant that has been used for centuries in folk medicine because of its powerful medicinal properties – peppermint. It is known from earlier studies to have anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-allergenic, anti-tumor and antifungal effects, and is also a powerful antioxidant.
In a new study, scientists compared the effectiveness of peppermint oil and minoxidil. The first examination of the participants in the experiment two weeks after the start of the use of both drugs showed that the hair began to grow more actively from the plant extract. After 21 days, minoxidil was already inferior to the folk remedy in results, and after 30 days the growth of hair from peppermint oil was 92%, while the result of the cosmetic product was only 55%.
