Kazakhstan refuses Russian IT products

The operation of the “Yandex” site in the country is suspended due to information about the transfer of user data to the FSB of the Russian Federation, reports zakon.kz.

"From August 9, 2023, the work of the domain name www.yandex.kz» has been suspended, – the Ministry of Digital Development announced.

The ministry added that it had sent a request to LLC "Yandex" with a request to provide detailed information about the location of the data processing centers used by the company and measures to protect personal data of Kazakhstan citizens, as well as about the principles on which "Yandex" interacts with law enforcement and special bodies.

Earlier in a number of mass media, information appeared that the FSB of the Russian Federation will receive round-the-clock access to the data of the Yandex.Taxi service. in Kazakhstan, including users' personal information.

The company assured that Russian legislation does not apply to the service in Kazakhstan and to its users, as they travel and use the application outside of Russia. It was also claimed that data related to the operation of the service in Kazakhstan can be obtained by Russian state bodies only through an official request and only within the framework of established international procedures.
