The community of Birgitz has a new “eagle”, who recently crowned his still young career with a gold medal in the team competition of the Junior World Championship!
The team competition at the Junior World Championships in Lahti / Finland ended with a sensational appearance by 19-year-old Elias Medwed from Birgitz. After a solid, but not entirely satisfactory, 7th place in the individual competition on Thursday, Birgitzer showed his jumping skills on the final day in the team competition and brought his team to gold with the daily best of 93 and 98 meters.
The Austrian quartet with Elias Medwed from Tyrol, Niklas Bachlinger from Vorarlberg, David Haagen from Styria and Daniel Tschofenig from Carinthia relegated Slovenia and Russia to their places with respectable distances. Thus, for the last 10 years, a team from the ski school ski school Stams has been on the gold spot again. A triumphant success for the sporting director and ÖSV junior speaker Harald Haim with the coaches Daniel Lackner and Thomas Thurnbichler.
Reward: World Cup starting place
Elias Medwed, who competes for SV Innsbruck Bergisel, was able to continue his successful run in this corona-plagued season. After two first places in the Alpencup (Seefeld) and a victory in the FIS-Cup (Zakopane) he achieved a career highlight that he will not soon forget.
The ÖSV rookie is therefore guaranteed a starting place in the next World Cup in Rasnov / Romania next weekend.Side detail: With Manuel Fettner and Elias Medwed, the community of Birgitz can justifiably be called a “ski jumping stronghold” …
