Senate Republicans have elected John Thune, a senator from South Dakota, as their leader, choosing an authoritative legislator with long experience.
Next year, the Republican Party will control both the White House and, possibly, both houses of Congress. In the 100-seat Senate, Republicans will get at least 52 seats. They are also likely to retain their majority in the House of Representatives, Reuters reports.
