The Colombian forward of FC Dallas, Jesús Ferreira, is already in Doha to play the World Cup Qatar 2022 with the national team of the United States.

The native of Santa Marta (Magdalena) finished the 2022 Major League Soccer (MLS) campaign as top scorer for his franchise by registering 18 goals on the season ahead of season signing Paul Arriola (10).

As if that were not enough, he was included in the list of 26 footballers called up by coach Gregg Berhalter to represent the North American team in the Asian orbital event along with attackers Christian Pulišić, Timothy Weah, Josh Sargent and Hagi Wright.

In dialogue with the news agency AFP, Ferreira spoke about the tremendous opportunity in front of him and what it means to represent the US team in his first FIFA World Cup at just 21 years old, as well as the Colombian fans who closely follow his career.

I am happy to represent all Colombians who cannot support Colombia in the World Cup. Things are coming out for me. I feel happy, ready and eager to work, with the favor of God, I hope things turn out well for me.

Emerging from the FC Dallas academy, after growing up on North American soil when his father David Ferreira played in the MLS, Jesús reached the first team in the state of Texas and thanks to his good sports performance he signed a contract extension that binds him to the club until December 30, 2025.

Also chosen as the best young player of the 2022 season in the MLS, Ferreira played 33 games and participated in 24 goals, scoring 18 and attending 6.

At the national team level, Ferreira registers seven goals scored in 15 international matches, which places him as a possible starter in Berhalter's usual 4-3-3 scheme confirms it and places him as a likely starting forward, just as he did in the September duels against Japan and Saudi Arabia:

Ferreira also acknowledged that becoming a professional in the national team was not going to be an easy task, much less telling him not to play with Colombia:

I knew it would be very difficult to choose, I'm not going to lie and say that I didn't want to represent Colombia, I always dreamed of representing it because my father did. And it was where I was born, but when things don't happen, other doors open. I had quite a few conversations with my family, we knew it would be a bit of a long process, but I'm happy with the decision, I'm happy because the United States gave me everything. They were attentive, present, always giving me the opportunity, it is what made me choose the United States,

With AFP, Jesús showed nostalgia for the fact that Colombia had not qualified for Qatar 2022, but he was emphatic in pointing out that he does not regret his decision to play with the United States:

I think that I will represent a team that has given me everything, but obviously I am a little sad because Colombia is not there, although I am happy to represent the Colombians in the World Cup. I have never regretted my decision, I had plenty of time to think about it. I will represent the United States with everything I have. We are not a team that is going to participate, one wants to win, the team knows it, the coaches know it and everyone is on the same page to have a good World Cup

Team USA will start in Qatar from Group B, along with Wales, England and Iran in the duels that will be played from November 21 to 29:
