JDG: 15 years of YouTube, the 7 best videos of the channel

On September 29, 2009, 15 years ago, Frédéric Molas and his friend Sébastien Rassiat created the YouTube channel JDG, short for Joueur du Grenier. Fred then tested old retro games that were considered unplayable. With a sense of humor, JDG then trashed these titles from another age in videos that are still cult. Over time, the two collaborators expanded their channel with new shows such as Papy Grenier, the special editions or Jeux en Vrac, in addition to the secondary channel Bazar du Grenier. Today on Twitch and at the Z Event, Frédéric Molas is considered an emblematic figure of the web, and his videos have accumulated more than 10 million views. It deserved a small top 7 of the best videos of the duo for the anniversary of the string.

JDG: 15 years of YouTube, the 7 best videos from the channel

#7 HARRY POTTER

A JDG video dedicated to the cult Warner Bros. license is bound to be an event. With its scenes at the Château de Fougères, the presence of Cyprien and other guests, as well as this absurd narration that characterizes the channel, the video released five years ago has accumulated no less than 19 million views. A must-see. No other episode of the channel has ever been able to match this score.

#6 THE NINJA TURTLES

In 25 minutes, JDG explores the Ninja Turtles license, its famous cartoon broadcast at the time on France 3, its live-action films released in the 90s, its series and other very dubious projects that followed one another. And since there are many negative things to say about the franchise, the videographer delivers a very funny and cynical score.

#5 DAEMON SUMONNER

A real rotten game test as we like them. JDG devotes an entire episode to  Daemon Summoner,a game developed by Atomic Planet Entertainment, a studio that has since sunk. An episode in which Fred mocks the bosses and developers of video game studios, pointing out their laxity. This by means of very funny sequences made with his sidekick Seb.

#4 STAR WARS

Just like Harry Potter, a JDG on Star Wars is enough to immediately make it popular. Thanks to the richness of its universe, the license has been ported to a whole bunch of games of opposing genres: FPS, management games, fighting games, etc. Frédéric Molas takes a malicious pleasure in criticizing the worst of Star Wars: Phantom Menace, its bugs and horrible graphics, the fighting game Star Wars: Master of Teras Kasi, its deplorable balancing and disastrous gameplay, the horrible Star Wars Yoda Story all in jerks or even Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,an almost unplayable platformer. In short, pure Joueur du Grenier as one likes it.

#3 MORTAL KOMBAT/The Fifth Element

In this episode, JDG is the savior of humanity who must play a series of games to participate in the final and win the Mortal Kombat. The opportunity to destroy the gameThe Fifth Element with some really trashy punchlines, before tackling the demolition of Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub Zero, a beat them all centered on the ice villain. At the same time, the very fun story around the license captivates the channel's fans.

#2 ADS

Here too, the episode on advertisements is a must. JDG looks back at old, striking and very disturbing advertisements. The generation of children of the 90s grew up with these advertisements broadcast on television sets, which were more difficult to skip than today for technological reasons. Under the sharp analysis of the videographer, these are advertisements no longer adapted to our society. that come back to us in memory, like that of dairy products, reconstructed by Fred and extras in a very funny way.

#1 FIGHTING GAMES SECOND EDITION

There is a lot to say about fighting games, as the big licenses of the genre have wrung out the concept through a series of sometimes very dispensable titles (Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Tekken). Of course, at the time, the gameplay was not as developed. Street Fighter 1 is the perfect example, with an AI that is almost impossible to beat and random, but cheated Hadoken. Flatman, Kasumi Ninja, Tatoo Assassin, the worst games of the genre are put to the test. Head-spinning gameplay that drives the attic player crazy. For the greatest pleasure of the viewers.
