Japan will invest another $33 billion in the development of a new generation passenger plane

Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and private companies will work together to develop their own next-generation passenger aircraft, sharing an investment of about 5 trillion yen ( 33 billion USD) over the next 10 years.

The new plane, which should be ready in 2035, can optionally run on hydrogen, but not on traditional jet fuel due to the country's desire to reduce carbon emissions.

In recent years, global airlines have increasingly begun to use environmentally friendly aviation fuel, which is made from waste cooking oil and plants.< /p>

Mitsubishi Heavy last year stopped work on a previous project to produce Japan's first domestic passenger plane called SpaceJet, citing a lack of know-how and increased costs.

Development of the SpaceJet began back in In 2008 with the help of a 50 billion yen financial aid from Japan's Ministry of Industry, its first delivery was originally scheduled for 2013.

However, this schedule was changed six times before the coronavirus pandemic dealt the final blow to the project.
