The Japanese Defense Ministry said that the Mi-8 helicopter of the Russian Aerospace Forces violated the airspace in the northern region of the country. The incident took place near the island of Hokkaido. Japanese air force fighters were raised into the sky, then they protested to Moscow.

After the aircraft crossed the airspace of Japan, a command was given to take off to a link of fighters. A few minutes later, the rotorcraft left Japanese airspace. In accordance with generally accepted international norms, using diplomatic channels, the Japanese government protested to Russia, the Kyodo news agency writes.
A protest note was sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation. The Russian foreign policy department has not yet published an official comment on the incident.
