Law enforcement officers were unable to identify 57 victims from a mass burial on the outskirts of Izyum, Kharkiv region.

Dmytro Chubenko, the spokesman of the Kharkiv regional prosecutor's office, told about this in a comment to “Ukrinform”.

"Unfortunately, 57 people could not be identified. Profile data has been established for another 58 people, but there are no relatives of these victims to conduct a DNA examination.

During the examination of the exhumed bodies, experts found that 15 victims had gunshot wounds, 87 had blast injuries, and at least 15 – signs of torture (in particular, they were found with their hands tied, ropes around their necks), in 23 – fractures of the jaws, bones of the head, hands, ribs,” said Chubenko.

Chubenko noted that during the investigation law enforcement officers and experts inspected the burial site more than 100 times, more than 450 different examinations were ordered to determine the causes of death, the presence of physical injuries, as well as special signs that can help in identification.

More than 20 victims have injuries in in the form of fractures of various parts of the body, 15 – were shot.

Russian troops fled from Izyum on September 10, leaving behind a lot of military equipment. On September 15, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that after the deoccupation of Izyum of the Kharkiv region, burials of people were discovered in the city. On September 23, in the liberated city of Izyum, the exhumation from the mass burial of residents killed by the occupiers was completed – a total of 447 bodies were raised, including children.
