Classic cars are not meant to be stored, they are meant to be driven. Unfortunately, this puts them at risk of dents, scratches, or worse, serious damage.

As the driver of this once immaculate 1948 Jaguar XK120 found out. The publication Motor1.

told more about the incidentGiuseppe Cerbone and his co-driver Niccolo Bottini Bongrani were doing a test run for the Mille Miglia in their 1948 XK120 when they almost collided head-on with an Opel Insignia. According to the Austrian publication Kronen Zeitung, the Opel driver was distracted and drove into the oncoming traffic lane. The right front of the Opel collided with the right front of the Jag and both cars were badly damaged.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the driver of the XK claims that the Opel driver was looking at his phone when the accident happened. A 23-year-old woman admits that she “got a call”, and she briefly looked into the phone. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured in the accident, but the driver and passenger of the XK received minor injuries.

As for the Jag, it's not clear yet whether it's a total loss or not. But the damage looks serious. A classic XK120 can set you back $100,000 or more, depending on condition and model year.

The only upside for an owner is that the next Mille Miglia isn't until June 2025, which gives him enough time to repair the car for the race. If it can be repaired at all.
