The man publicly humiliated the military, distributed pro-Russian materials and attacked a law enforcement officer
A court in Poltava sentenced a former fitness trainer to 6 years in prison with confiscation of half of his property, the Poltava Regional Prosecutor's Office reported.
What was he accused of?
The man was found guilty under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:
- Part 1 of Art. 114-1 – obstructing the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
- Part 2 of Art. 345 – intentional infliction of bodily harm to a law enforcement officer.
- Part 2 of Article 435-1 – production and distribution of materials that degrade the honor and dignity of the military.
- Part 2, 3 of Article 436-2 – denial of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine.
What happened
In the summer of 2023, a man repeatedly entered into conflicts with employees of territorial recruitment centers in Poltava. He publicly insulted the military in a rude manner, using obscene language. He filmed his actions and distributed videos with humiliating comments on social networks. On August 29, 2023, during a document check, the man behaved aggressively, resisted the police, and hit a law enforcement officer. According to the conclusions of the medical examination, he was in a state of drug intoxication.
Verdict
The man pleaded not guilty, but the court found the evidence sufficient for a verdict and sentenced him to 6 years in prison with confiscation of half of his property. The convict will be in custody until the verdict becomes final.
