It became known how much it costs to modernize the F-16 to a version that surpasses the fighters of the Russian Federation

The most powerful version of the famous aircraft at the moment is the F-16V Viper Block 70/72.< /p>

Poland is going to upgrade its F-16 Block 52 fleet to the latest Block 70/72 version. This is according to the authorization for the sale of the relevant components from the Office of Military Cooperation of the US Ministry of Defense, which Defense Express drew attention to.

According to the document, Warsaw can purchase new sets for its 48 aircraft and another 10-12 spares. These include new AN/APG-83 radar stations, on-board computers, cockpit display kits, electronic warfare kits, navigation systems, etc. 

All of these were estimated to cost up to 7, 3 billion dollars. However, this is the marginal price. In the final agreement, it may turn out to be somewhat less, in particular, due to a reduction in the list of components. 

Thus, upgrading the aircraft to the Block 70/72 level costs up to $152 million with spare parts and up to $121 million, if you don't take them into account. 

This is not much less than the cost of a new fighter of the fourth generation, although the price of the most powerful of them can be hundreds of millions of dollars.
