North Korea for the first time in a long time demonstrated a secret uranium enrichment facility that has heightened tensions in the global nuclear race. The country's state media reported that Kim Jong Un recently visited the facility and called for an "exponential" increasing the nuclear arsenal. This is the first such display since 2010, when Pyongyang first unveiled its uranium enrichment plant, writes Interesting Engineering.

Photos released by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) show Kim talking to scientists and inspecting the tall gray centrifuges used to enrich uranium. This indicates that North Korea is modernizing its technologies with the purpose of increasing the production of nuclear material.
South Korea has already reacted to these events by condemning the actions of the DPRK and calling on the country to stop violating UN sanctions. Analysts also note that North Korea may have additional secret facilities for uranium enrichment, which could significantly increase its nuclear arsenal.
Experts estimate that North Korea already has enough enriched uranium to make from 25 to 30 nuclear bombs and can add another six to eighteen new warheads annually.
