Iran Delivers Ballistic Missiles to Russia, But Withholds Launchers – Reuters

In early September, Iran transferred short-range ballistic missiles to Russia Fath-360, but the entire cargo turned out to be incomplete In particular, the missiles lack launchers.

This was reported by Reuters, citing a US official, a European diplomat and a representative of European intelligence. The latter added that intelligence does not expect Iran to provide the launchers separately.

The fact is that in Iran, a 6×6 special truck (a modification of a standard Mercedes truck) is used to launch the Fath-360. As the publication notes, referring to the opinion of experts, the Iranian truck simply “will not withstand the harsh conditions of the Ukrainian winter”, when off-road is added to the climate. So in Moscow, they could make a decision to install Fath-360 missiles on their own chassis, for example, “Ural” or “KamAZ”.

This is the first possible reason for incomplete delivery. This version is supported by the fact that immediately after receiving the first batch of Fath-360 on September 9, the invaders took the missiles to the Ashuluk training ground. This range is intended for testing and training of air defense units and is the closest to the missile arrival port in Astrakhan where it can be tested.

Another version is that by delaying the launchers, Iran opens up space for negotiations. with Western countries. Iran's new president, Massoud Pezeshkian, and other Iranian officials will meet with European officials on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly next week in New York.

“Perhaps Iran is holding back the supply of launchers to secure seats in these talks. to imagine that if Iranian missiles were immediately rained on Ukraine, it would be condemned by the General Assembly”, – cites the edition of Fabian Hinz, an expert from the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
